The classroom was outside playing. A child was walking around the perimeter of the pavilion with another child. A classroom teacher asked her what she was doing. She was holding a friend’s hand and said, “Julia is sad so I’m going for a walk with her. Sometimes you have to go for a walk to make someone feel better.”
Connection: Empathy
Empathy requires a willingness to temporarily give up our own thoughts and feelings in order to more accurately understand the thoughts and feelings of other people. The skill of Empathy promotes emotional regulation and perspective taking. This is Executive State thinking!
